Athletes as Role Models – Are They Really Worthy

The debate over athletes as role models is back on the front burner thanks to the recent Tiger Woods scandal. Will Tiger be able to turn it around? Should kids and teens look up to these guys/gals as role models. Lets also face it, bad behaviour isn’t just for athletes. Rock stars, celebrities and others have disappointed their young fans many times.

Tiger Woods is not the first to fall from grace nor will he be the last. Our heroes do everything from lie, cheat, beat up people, kill animals, etc. Do we continue to support them? Do we still buy they stuff they endorse? Should we really support or look up to these people who behave worse than any of us would be allowed to?

I guess what makes the latest celeb scandal of Tiger’s a little different is not only the great lengths he and his PR machine took to cover his behaviour up, but he ran for cover faster than most. He flaunted his family life creating an image that was not true and took us all along for the ride.

Can we expect him to come out and face the music? Not sure.
