Chris Brown performed a Michael Jackson tribute on the BET awards that ended with a sobbing performer being overtaken by his memory of his hero.
It has long been known the connection Chris Brown had with MJ and his love for the King of Pop. Brown did a remarkable job dancing to Jackson’s music but was overcome trying to sing along with Man in the Mirror.
Brown openly idolized Jackson and at one point even Tweeted that his Rihanna scandal was similar to what Jackson had faced, writing after his record sales plummeted, “look at what mj had to deal with and still came out on top.”
During last night’s BET Awards, Jermaine Jackson introduced the Michael Jackson tribute promising it would be phenomenal. And yes, it was a spectacle. Brown brilliantly performed “The Way You Make Me Feel” and “Billie Jean” moonwalking across the stage and showing off some serious Jacksonesque moves. When Brown began “Man In The Mirror,” a song appropriate to his personal drama with lyrics like “I’m gonna make a change for once in my life,” he broke down in tears barely able to sing the first few lines of the song. The crowd finished the song for him, while Jermaine Jackson comforted him after he walked off stage.
