If you ever wondered whether we use technology more today than in the past turns out we do. A new study shows that we use electronic media for almost 8 hours daily….totalling 53 hours weekly.

The electronic media includes cellphones, iPods, video games and computers. Compared to a decade ago, we spend 79 more minutes of free time each day listening to music, watching TV and movies, playing video games and hanging out online.
Nearly twice as many say they do at least two of these activities at the same time. The Kaiser Family Foundation suveyed 2,002 people aged 8 to 28. We apparently spend 7 hours and 38 minutes using media per day – up 6 hours and 19 minutes from a decade ago.
So what is suffering from all our technology facination. Print media apparently is fading. Daily book reading reamains 47% – the same since 1999 but magazine reading is down from 55% to 35%. Newspapers are also bad as readership is down from 42% to 23%.
Since 2004 cellphones usage has increased from 39% to 66%, iPod ownership is up from 18% to 76% and 20% of kids media comes via mobile devices.
Some say computers are a dying breed being replaced by mobile technology.
